Ty Kondrat Opens East Street Auto

New owner puts his nose to the grindstone...

I`ve about reached the point in my life where I`d like to believe that I have a bit of wisdom, a little insight on things, and a working knowledge of how to make it in the world. Thanks to my parents and grandparents, I`m able to come up with some good "old-fashioned" sayings now and again, most of which leave my kids shaking their heads or scrambling for their cell phones to google translate what I just said. I`ve come to realize the importance of one of those old sayings... "you`ve got to have people."

In the world of business you need people to come through your door... you also need people to wait on those people. In life you`ll need a good doctor, a plumber, an electrician, and of course a good (honest) mechanic.

Recently, my son`s car began losing his heat. We noticed a small puddle in the driveway as well and on an off morning we went by to see our dear friend and new owner of East Street Auto (formerly Bill & Mikes) - Ty Kondrat. As we pulled in to the lot, nestled back off the road at 1077 East St. next to the Boch Ice Center, the 40yr. old master put down his tools and came out to greet us.

You see, Ty is a seasoned Dedham mechanic now, having spent the better part of the last decade working right here in Town. Raised in Wolfboro, NH. Ty has been servicing cars, boats, and "anything with an engine" since the age of twelve.

Yearning to "make a move", he responded to a Craigslist ad almost ten years ago and was hired on the spot by the old Al`s Auto Repair at the Endicott Rotary. His hard work, dedication, knowledge and sincerity didn`t go unnoticed and Ty was picked up by Bill & Mikes owner, Bill Troiano, when Al`s was sold.

By the end of last year, Bill was contemplating retirement and Ty knew the time was right to make his next move. Over the holidays, the pair sat down and agreed on terms to have the veteran mechanic take over the business! For the past few weeks, East Street Auto has been getting a makeover, designing a website, launching on Facebook, and working on becoming an integral part of our community.

As for my son`s car, it turned out that we needed a new clamp for a radiator hose. Ty replaced it while we chatted, sharing his dreams for growing his own business and increasing his already sizeable group of loyal local customers.

As I reached for my wallet, Ty put his hand out and said "I`ll catch you next time..." Again, as my dear Mom would say - "you`ve got to have people" - and I`m sure glad that Ty Kondrat and East Street Auto is there for all of us!

So if you need any work done on your vehicle, or if you`d just like to stick your head in and introduce yourself to congratulate a young man whose passion and hard work has paid off - tell him "Joe sent you..."
