Unlocked Vehicles Targeted In Dedham Overnight Incidents

DEDHAM, MA — Police are urging residents to secure their cars amid a recurring series of overnight vehicle entries across town.

Since July 1, Dedham police have received 30 reports of vehicles being entered in neighborhoods throughout the community. Police said unlocked vehicles are the most common factor in the incidents, which typically occur overnight while residents are sleeping.

Police also reported similar crimes in surrounding communities.

Residents should lock their vehicles every time they leave them and remove all valuables from inside. As part of the “9 p.m. routine,” police also recommend closing garage doors, locking ground-floor doors and windows, retrieving packages and making sure valuables cannot be seen from outside the home.

Anyone who sees or hears unusual activity overnight should call 911 and provide as much detailed information as possible, police said.
