Ursuline Academy Receives $1 Million Grant for Athletic and Convocation Center

The grant was provided by the Yawkey Foundation.

Ursuline Academy President Rosann M. Whiting announced today that the Yawkey Foundation has made a $1 million grant in support of the school’s new Athletic and Convocation Center.

With the grant and several leadership donations from alumnae, trustees, parents and Foundations, Ursuline has recently broken ground on the construction of a 40,000 square foot Athletic and Convocation Center.

The ACC is the first major enhancement to the Lowder Street campus since the addition of a Science Wing in 2002. The new building will house classrooms and an innovation lab, a regulation-size gymnasium, a fitness room, gathering space, and more.

Having supported Ursuline’s scholarship program since 2008, the Yawkey Foundation is familiar with the Academy’s mission of educating young women in mind, body, and spirit. Said President James Healey,

“Ursuline Academy has for decades instilled a passion for service in her students’ hearts, and the educational tools to navigate a complex world. We are delighted to help Ursuline continue this legacy of success with a grant of $1 million.”

President Whiting commented on the need for this major campus upgrade, saying “Today, we are starting to build a house, but when it becomes a home to our students and faculty, we can truly celebrate, for it is then that they will have the building they deserve.”
