Thanks to a generous grant from the Dover Sherborn Education Fund, the English department is thrilled to welcome acclaimed poet and memoirist Richard Blanco to Dover Sherborn High School on Tuesday, November 22nd. Blanco, a civil engineer-turned writer, became the youngest, as well as the first immigrant and first openly gay, inaugural poet at President Obama's Inauguration in 2013. He has authored three poetry collections: Looking for the Gulf Motel, Directions to the Beach of the Dead, and City of a Hundred Fires; and two memoirs: The Prince of Los Cocuyos: A Miami Childhood and For All of Us, One Today: An Inaugural Poet’s Journey. He has also written and performed a poem called "Boston Strong" for the Boston Marathon bombing fundraiser. He has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning, NPR’s All Things Considered and Fresh Air with Terry Gross, as well as major media from around the world, including CNN, Telemundo, AC360, BBC, Univision, and PBS.

He will be speaking to all 10th, 11th, and 12th graders during a second period assembly, and he will be conducting smaller workshops with select English classes later in the day.
