Caryl House Garden Party

Diane Taraz to Perform at Caryl House Garden Party

The Annual Caryl House Garden Party will be held Sunday,  June 8th  from 2 to 4 PM at the Caryl House, 107 Dedham St., in Dover.  The event is sponsored by the Dover Historical Society.
From 2:30 to 3:30 PM, Singer-Songwriter Diane Taraz  will perform a musical medley, Waving the Flag of Freedom, a celebration of the adoption of the stars and stripes in 1777.
Dressed in a silken Colonial gown,  Taraz will present songs from the time of our nation's birth, symbolized by the adoption of the stars and stripes in 1777. Just three years earlier, in 1774,  saw the Caryl House built, so this historic music will be right at home in the Caryl House and  garden.  Taraz  will sing lively fife-and-drum tunes, melodies of romantic passion, and songs created to encourage either rebellion or loyalty to the crown. She will explain the history behind each song and take listeners on a fascinating trip back in time, accompanying herself on guitar and lap dulcimer.
This Garden Party will be a wonderful opportunity to greet  friends and enjoy a Springtime Celebration. Period refreshments will be served.  All are invited.
Caryl House, built around 1774, was  the home of the Reverend Benjamin Caryl,  first  minister of Springfield Parish, now Dover.  It is furnished to show how Rev. Caryl and his family lived in the 18th Century following the American  Revolution.  It is one of three Dover museums operated by the Dover Historical Society
