Dover Police Department Appoints Special Officer
James McMeekin will be a part-time officer with the DPD, working weekend shifts and attending regular training.

DOVER, MA – A Mansfield native and Magna Cum Laude graduate of UMass Amherst is the newest addition to the Dover Police Department. James McMeekin was named a part-time Special Officer by the Town of Dover Board of Selectmen on Thursday.
McMeekin is currently working as a public safety dispatcher for the Natick Police Department. Prior to applying for the Special Officer position, McMeekin completed more than 260 hours of training at the Reserve Police Academy and received CPR certification. Special Officer requirements also include an associate's degree or equivalent credits and a valid driver's license.
Candidates are subjected to an interview panel and background investigation by DPD detectives. Ultimately, the chief recommends candidates to the Board of Selectmen for employment.

Special Officers work weekend shifts on patrol and attend regular training. They hold the same arrest powers as regular Dover officers and will be considered for future full-time job openings.
