Dover's January Home Sales Down In 2011

Information, compiled by real estate information firm The Warren Group, showed that three homes were sold in Dover in the month of January, down from five that were sold on January 2010.

Home sales improved statewide, with 2,190 homes sold in the month, as compared to 2,081 for last January. According to The Warren Group, this represents the highest number of sales for the month since 2007.

"It's promising to see the highest sales volume in four year in the state," Group CEO Timothy Warren said in a statement. "However, a little later in the year, positive comparisons with 2010 will be tougher to achieve. In the spring, we will be comparing current sales with sales volume during the height of the homebuyer tax credit."

Here are the home sales numbers for area towns:

• Easton's home sales fell for January, from 12 to eight. This represents a drop of 33 percent.
• Foxborough's home sales jumped by 50 percent for January year-over-year, going from four to six.
• Mansfield saw its home sales climb from five in January 2010 to eight last month, a 60 percent increase.
• Medfield's January home sales doubled, from two last year to four last month.
• Norfolk saw its January home sales drop significantly, from five to two. That represents a 60 percent decline.
• Norton's January home sales jumped by 50 percent, from four last year to six last month.
• Norwood's home sales increased sharply, from four in January 2010 to seven last month, a 75 percent rise.
• Plainville's January home sales fell from four to two, a 50 percent decline.
• Sharon's home sales declined slightly in January, from 11 to nine. That represents an 18 percent drop.
• Stoughton home sales increased slightly in January, from 8 to 10 — a 25 percent increase.
• In Wrentham, five homes were sold in town for the month of January, the same total as that of January 2010.
