DOVER-SHERBORN GIRLS SOCCER TIES MEDFIELD TVL RIVALS

The setting was Dover-Sherborn's newly turf field named after Nora Searle, a young girl in our community, who lost her battle to cancer almost two years ago.  The DS girls soccer team are remembering Nora, a big time soccer player, this month with pink arm bands with her initials (NES).  Nora would have been a Sophomore playing with DSGS.  Today was the day of remembrance and a tough match against our rivals, Medfield.
The setting was cool and dusk, and the Medfield girls entered the fields ready for battle in all pink uniforms.  This is the first time Medfield has completely changed their uniforms for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Medfield won the Divisional TVL last year and also won states for Division 2 performance 2012.  Dover-Sherborn is in Divisional 3 Conference and also in the Tri-Valley-League with Medfield so winning tonight makes them both contenders for a well earned divisional title.  DS came into the game 7-2-1 after missing one match last week against Hopkington due to rain.  Medfield came into the match 8-2-1.  Coach Wainwright primes his team to stay focused and have vision, not to panic and that everyone who steps on the field needs to be on thier toes.  Tonight was the night for DSGS!
Almost 10 minutes into the game (31:36) Senior Captain Jackie Goudreault makes her mark.  She is unassisted with a rocket shot making her move around some defenders to take the ball up the far end corner of the field and blanch the ball far post up and over the goalies finger tips.  This puts DS on the boards and with a 1-0 lead.  Junior Goal Tender and starter Meghan Hall makes her presence known to a tough match-up and when Medfield comes up with a total of 6 corner kicks to our 2, Medfield monopolizes on two goals.  First Medfield goal from a corner at 19:56 left in first half, and another goal with 6:31 minutes  makes this game a 1-2 lead for Medfield at the end of the first.
Second half of the game starts and the energy level thus far has been high and both teams and coaches are looking for the win.  In net for DS is Sophomore Sarah Williams.  She has also been a huge presence to the Wainwright team and has a whopping 6 big saves.  This second half, lots of corners, but in DS behalf this time.  Goudreault comes out hard again and flies down the field and scores unassisted at the 38:31 mark, which puts DS at a tying position at 2-2.  The corners for DS have been flowing with 6 to 1 against Medfield.  But Medfield does not let up at all.  The crowds are on their toes and soon after at 35:52 Medfield blanches  a goal to make it 2-3 Medfield.  Wainwright and company have to keep digging and digging. They do and  with 4:22 left in regulation, Senior Sarah Tanner crosses a long ball in reach of the goalie and the goalie punches it out for a rebound header by (SO) Rachel Shone for the tying match for the game.
This was a battle for DS as they fought from the beginning to get this game notched for a coach, they want to win for Dave, says Jackie Goudreault, "He has taught me so much and is getting me ready for college ball!"  Coach Wainwright has earned the respect of this young DSGS team and in his 6th year, he has earned the respect and the heart and sole of this club! Izzy Parizeau says, "He is that type of coach I want to win for him!", Kasey Huemme, never lets up, "Coach Wainwright is hard and makes me work for everything!" The parents left elated because they felt like this was a great game with great energy and great carma! It was a great game to watch.
DSGS final score 3-3!

DSGS TVL record 7-2-2
Medfield TVL record 8-2-2
DS JV took a loss 0-2 tonight, but the effort was A+ from members of the JV, like Anoush Gigjarian, Rachel Hall, Jill West, Brooke Daly, Isobel Morrison, Emma White, and Emma Hanmer Ainsleigh Caldicott and company!

With a make-up rain date in the works DS plans on working hard and taking the extra mile to make this a Divisional TVL Champions of 2013 year! "Baby steps says Coach, baby steps.  Let's take this one day at a time!"
