Driver Seriously Injured in Dover Crash

The Dover Police Department is investigating a serious crash that shut down Hartford Street for several hours on Monday morning, which impacted the morning commute.

On Monday, October 24, 2016, at approximately 3:40 am, the Emergency Communications Center received multiple E-911 calls about a motor vehicle crash on Hartford Street by Crest Drive. Sergeant Ed Meau and Officer Chuck Marscher arrived on scene to find a Pontiac Grand Am on fire with significant damage resting inverted against a utility pole with the operator trapped inside. Police and Fire personnel worked to extinguish the fire and were able to extract the lone occupant.

The operator, a 22 year old male from Bellingham, was conscious and alert while being treated, but was transported by MedFlight to Mass General Hospital with serious injuries.

Initial investigation shows that the vehicle was traveling westbound on Hartford Street at a high rate of speed, exited the travel lane to the left crossing over the eastbound lane and off the roadway crashing into a utility pole and catching fire.

The Dover Police Department was assisted on scene by the Dover Fire Department, Dover EMS, and Westwood FD Medics. The Westwood Police and the Medfield Police assisted in road closures and detours, and the Medfield Fire Department provided station coverage during the incident. The crash remains under investigation by the Dover Police with the assistance of the Wellesley Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. No further information is available for release at this time.
