Grab & Go Kids Planner: Fourth of July weekend

The fourth of July isn't cause for just one day of celebration. There's plenty to do all weekend. From game time in Needham to helping at Powisset Farm fields in Dover.

The fourth of July isn’t cause for just one day of celebration. There’s plenty to do all weekend. From game time in Needham to helping at Powisset Farm fields in Dover.

Get your hands dirty in the Powisset Farm fields (39 Powisset Street, Dover), helping them to plant, weed, and harvest, or with a variety of other farm projects on Saturday, July 2 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. For all ages and skills, plus its free! Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Its all about kids in Needham (Needham High School, 609 Webster Street, Needham Heights) on July 3 from 1 to 4 p.m.  Check this out – there will be nearly 50 games and activities provided by Knuckle Bones, including bouncy rides and field games, will keep the kids entertained for hours at Memorial Park. What better way to throw a 300th birthday party!

Fireworks, baby! If you are looking to stay close to home for fireworks, your best bet is to head to Needham (Memorial Park) at dusk on July 3. There will be food, pony rides, an old fashioned baseball game, children’s games and much more.

As a preview to their spectacular must-see event, you could opt to go into Boston on Sunday, July 3 to listen to the Boston symphony prepare for their big night. Its everything but the fireworks. Just grab a blanket and some snacks and soak in the atmosphere at the Hatch Shell. If you have your heart set on seeing the fireworks, seating for the July 4 concert begins at 9 a.m. First come, first serve. Concert starts at 8 and fireworks begin at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Sherborn will celebrate the 4th of July with this year's themed "Agricultural History of Sherborn" parade on Monday, July 4 beginning at 2 p.m. The parade route will follow Route 27 to the Jameson Fields. Fire engine rides will begin at 5 p.m. Events are sponsored by the Sherborn Fire and Rescue Association.

Needham's Fourth of July Grand Parade will start at 9 am on Monday, July 4th. The starting location is Greene’s Field. I’ve gone to this parade since I was a kid and wow! I bring my own kids now for nearly two hours of non-stop entertainment. After the parade there will be more food, a flea market, an old fashioned baseball game, children’s games and much more. Plan to stay in Needham for this great 4th of July tradition! Here's the parade route
