Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" Discussion led by John F. Hudson

Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" Discussion led by John F. Hudson Wednesday, October 29th at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, October 29th at 7 p.m. at the Sherborn Library, John F. Hudson will lead a book discussion on Thornton Wilder’s iconic American play, “Our Town.”

“Our Town” is considered by many critics and audiences to be the classic drama about human life: in a small town, in New England, in America. Set in the fictional village of Grover’s Corner, New Hampshire at the turn of the twentieth century, “Our Town” won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1938 and continues to be one of the most frequently performed plays in the world. This fall it will be offered November 7th and 8th by students at Dover-Sherborn High School. Its themes of love and death, birth and tragedy speak to the human condition and what it means, in the words of one of its characters, “to realize life while [we] live it…every, every moment.”

Join us for an evening of discussion and reflection about “Our Town”, led by local pastor and newspaper columnist John F. Hudson. Hudson, a lifelong fan and student of the play, studied English at the University of Massachusetts, writes “Spiritually Speaking” which appears in newspapers throughout greater Boston, and has been a scholar in residence at the Collegeville Writers’ Institute at Saint John University in Collegeville, Minnesota. Participants are encouraged to read the play beforehand, come with questions and to attend the play in November as well. The Sherborn Library will provide multiple copies of the play for readers.
