Residents are reminded the Eastham–Wellfleet area is a global stranding hotspot and urged to report any distressed marine mammals to trained responders rather than intervening themselves.
   

• Not so ‘Shark Smart': Man at Cape Cod beach spotted swimming near seals (bostonherald.com) — A major mass stranding of up to 30 bottlenose dolphins at First Encounter Beach in Eastham saw most animals refloat with the tide, though several died before rescuers arrived. Officials say the Eastham–Wellfleet “crook” is a global hotspot for strandings and urge residents to keep distance and call IFAW’s hotline if they encounter distressed marine mammals.
