At first, I wasn't quite sure what it was!
A quick, whimsical blog post about our not-so-sunny weather pattern
So, here I was, stepping out of my building right here in the heart of the bustling metropolis of North Easton, ready to head home for a bite of lunch, and - in front of me, spread all over the sidewalk - was this large dark blob, sort of an elongated smudge.
At first I thought it was some sort of 'spill', maybe something toxic or foreign, something that would cause me to cough and sputter and turn my hair grey ...
Whoops, already too late on that one!

Then, I thought, "No - it's probably just some dirt left on the sidewalk that I never noticed before."
Nope, wrong again.

It was my shadow!
There was actually enough sun (well, it was sort of sun ...) to create a shadow.
Zowie! It had been so long since that had happened that I had lost sight of it - literally!
All this rain, and mist, and fog, and damp, dank, dismal, dreary (yeesh, I sound like Edgar Allen Poe ...) weather has taken its toll on all of us, I'm afraid. Not only could we not cut the grass ... made all the greener and longer by all of the rain; but we couldn't even look down, see a shadow and navigate our travels using the treasured lessons of our grade school science class.
Well, hooray! That's over, I thought. Now I'll know where the sun is and, by my shadow, where I am heading. Great!
Unfortunately, by the time I had it figured out, that fleeting flirtation with sunshine, warmth and all the things we've been missing was, itself, missing! Gone. Disappeared.
Ah well, the next time the sun comes out - probably sometime in June or July - maybe I'll have the day off and can savor the whole several minutes that it stops for a visit.
I can wish, can't I?
