Featured Teacher - Mr. Flaherty

Oliver Ames High School hired a lot of young, new, and exciting teachers this year. Meet Mr. Flaherty!

by Ashley McDermott

Many may have noticed the recent additions to the teaching staff that have arrived this year.  One of the numerous new teachers is Mr. Flaherty. Mr. Flaherty resides in the History department and teaches sophomores, juniors, and seniors in both macroeconomics and United States History 1. Though new to O.A., Mr. Flaherty has prior experience teaching. Last year he taught students at a high school in the Boston Public School district and had previously taught third grade. So far, Mr. Flaherty’s Oliver Ames experience has proved positive. He says that he likes the school, the students, the community, and the abundant school spirit. Mr. Flaherty said, “Students are lucky to have the extracurricular activities and clubs provided here.”  One experience that has come Mr. Flaherty’s way since arriving at Oliver Ames is the appearance of hallway decorations. He expresses that he likes the decorations placed in the hallways for certain events and that he has never seen that before in his previous schools. Mr. Flaherty also reveals that some of his favorite elements of teaching are macroeconomics, current world events, and United States history from the global perspective. Though teaching is significant in his life, outside of school Mr. Flaherty enjoys travelling and reading. Ultimately, Mr. Flaherty is a great new teacher who is undeniably worth meeting.
