Pick a Pint of Pleasure!

Easton's agricultural history grows roots deeper than farm fields as kitchen gardens are serving up treats to compliment those potted herbs daring me to ask "What's pink and red and sweet all over?"

Homegrown strawberries!  June is one of my favorite months in the year.  Flowers are blooming, temps are rising and fresh strawberries are topping cereal bowls, fruit salads and cheesecake everywhere!

Easy to grow - they thrive in container or bed, easy on the eyes - those pretty pink and white flowers offer cheery spring color and those berries, oh those sweet berries!!

Pick and eat season stretches all the way from Easy Street to Columbus Avenue where my daughter has been harvesting her own delicious treats for several years.  She looks forward to running outside and reaping the rewards of her not so tough labor every spring and then again in smaller harvest each fall.  Her Alpine Strawberries are runnerless - a perennial favorite to many gardeners as well as this accidental farmer as they behave well and resist the urge to invade adjacent planting areas.  Cultivating an early appreciation for the simple pleasures of gardening and fostering the development of agricultural literacy couldn't be sweeter - well maybe a little if you top it with a spoonful of pure cane sugar. ;)
