Please Support Dottie Fulginiti and Dan Smith on April 30th

Dottie Fulginiti and Dan Smith for the Board of Selectmen.

On Tuesday, April 30th, Easton voters will have the opportunity to choose two new members of the Board of Selectmen. Local elections have a huge impact on our lives. Those elected help establish the vision for our community, support and promote creative ideas, and advocate for solutions.

Easton is fortunate to have a wealth of involved volunteers, both elected and appointed, who are dedicated to making this town a great place to live. During this on-going fiscal crisis, the town has worked hard to minimize cuts to important services. Thankfully, we had a large rainy-day fund, and we have weathered the economic storm better than many towns. Recently, the community has begun to restore cuts to public safety and has started to replenish diminished reserves. During this time the residents of Easton have also strongly supported the town’s efforts to find ways to preserve our history and open space. We all realize that once these resources are destroyed, they are gone forever.

There are four candidates running for two seats on the Board of Selectmen. I am supporting Dottie Fulginiti and Dan Smith. Like all the candidates, Dottie and Dan understand the importance of restoring cuts to public safety. Dottie and Dan have also both publicly supported the downtown revitalization project, the historic preservation of the Shovel Works, and the purchase of the Governor Ames Estate by the Trustees of Reservations.  Dottie was involved in the Shovel Works project from the beginning, spearheading efforts to involve residents in fighting the destruction of the historic buildings during the initial proposal. Dan has served on the Planning Board and has been a strong supporter of these preservation projects.  Both these candidates understand that our community is not just about numbers, it is also about the special things that make Easton unique.

What I respect most about these two candidates is their willingness to do the research, seek input, and look at the whole of our community when making a decision. As a member of the Board of Selectmen, I know that these are critically important skills. It is easy in this job to say “no”:” no” to new ideas, “no” to change and “no” to innovation.  It is much harder to embrace challenging and complex issues, to say “yes” to creative solutions, and to make decisions  based not just on the here and now, but on what will make Easton a wonderful place to live well into the future.

Please take the time to vote on April 30th. When you do, I ask for your support for Dottie Fulginiti and Dan Smith.
