Someone's Sitting in the Shade Today...
Reflecting on the recent loss of a good friend, I lean on the words of Les Brown - "Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago".

My friend was an extraordinary individual who gave selflessly and lived honestly. Like a good gardener - she planned carefully, worked hard and shared her harvests generously. In the 10 years I knew her, I never told her how carefully I studied her actions, listened to her wisdom and absorbed her enthusiasm. She was a tireless advocate for her community who inspired many with her genuine smile and honest handshake. Her efforts highlighted her homespun values while her historical reverance dominated her contributions to her community. Her energy and intellect propelled her to numerous positions of leadership where her gentle nature enabled her to successfully educate, improve and respect the lives of those around her.
The world is a better place because my friend cared enough to make a difference. She planted a shade tree that many will enjoy sitting under for generations ahead. Her family, her friends, her students and her township will never forget her legacy. Today I will sit under Melanie's shade tree. I will reflect on her gifts, I will smile at her memory and I will do my best to follow her example...
