You can become a “South Shore Idol” by winning “The Voices of Champions,” a vocal competition that is being held by The Charity Guild agency in Brockton.
The winner will receive a $150 prize, recording time at a local studio and a spot as guest soloist at the Brockton Rox home opener next year.
The second annual competition is for soloists and groups, open to all ages and styles of music. Auditions are Sunday, June 9, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Shaw’s Center, 1 Feinberg Way. There is a $5 fee. Singers must call in advance for a time slot. Those auditioning should not bring instruments but should use a CD or the equivalent for accompaniment.

After the auditions, judges will pick 20 contestants to advance to a preliminary round on two Wednesday evenings -- Sept. 11 and 18 at the Shaw’s Center. The final round will be part of the Charity Guild’s 11th annual Harvest Gala the evening of Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Shaw’s Center and will be judged by the audience. That event will have cocktails, dinner and live and silent auctions. All proceeds will support the Charity Guild’s food pantry in the heart of Brockton, which in the past year provided much-needed groceries to more than 14,000 of the neediest residents of the city and nearby towns.
Last year’s “Voices” winner was Bethany Conway of Cumberland, R.I., who is graduating this spring from Stonehill College in Easton. She sang the Whitney Houston song “I Have Nothing” in the finals and will be a guest star at the gala in September.
