EASTON, MA — The Massachusetts House of Representatives special election for Precinct 6 in Easton scheduled for March 31 has been postponed. The election has been rescheduled for June 2.

All Precinct 6 voters can now request an absentee ballot and are encouraged to to apply early. An absentee ballot application is available here. Once completed and signed, you may scan or take a picture of your application and email it to townclerksoffice@easton.ma.us.

Easton officials said ballots will be mailed to residents while the town offices are closed to the public — there will be no absentee voting in the office. All ballots must be returned to the town offices, via mail or drop box outside at 136 Elm Street, by 8 p.m. on June 2. Officials also encourage returning ballots as soon as possible.

The number of deaths caused by the new coronavirus continued to mount as confirmed cases the virus in Massachusetts surpassed 1,000, state health officials said Tuesday.

The Department of Public Health in its daily update announced two more deaths related to COVID-19, upping the total to 11. The DPH also revealed 1,159 confirmed cases in an expected, yet still jarring uptick, from 777 Monday.

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been increasing dramaticallyas testing expands and the virus spreads. The number of tests administered is now at 13,749, nearly 5,000 more than Monday. The majority of tests have taken place at hospitals or in private labs, rather than the state lab.

There are now 304 cases in Middlesex County, 234 in Suffolk County, 129 in Norfolk County and 118 in Essex County. Boston announced there are 197 confirmed cases in the city, saying 21 recovered. The hardest-hit age groups in terms of number of cases are 40-49, 50-50 and 30-39, each with more than 200 cases.
