Easton Special Town Meeting Scheduled for Feb. 6

10 current articles to include shovelshop, dam at Ames Pond and a generator for Town Offices.

The latest draft of the Town of Easton Special Town Meeting Warrant was released this week with 10 proposed articles. The Easton Special Town Meeting is currently scheduled for Feb. 6 at the auditorium.

Selectmen and Finance Committee members have yet to officially recommend any of the proposed articles, which range from Shovelshop easement purchases to a Mobile Home Bylaw.

The Mobile Home bylaw, Article One, would allow the town to regulate rents and evictions in Easton’s mobile home park once the state grants the authority to Easton. The bylaw is an extension of an article passed in the .

Other notable articles include Article Six, which would purchase a generator for the for the cost of approximately $85,000. The decision to add the article came after numerous power outages last year caused by snow storms and Tropical Storm Irene. With power outages for long periods of time, town officials were unable to communicate with residents, among other things.

"Irene and the Halloween snowstorm have further highlighted this critical need," the article states.

In Article Nine, the town will have the opportunity to vote to accept the donation of the Shovelshop Pond and the Shovelshop Pond Dam from the Ames family. The addition of the dam will allow the town to control a larger system of dams in the area.

"Ownership of the Shovel Shop Pond (“Pond”) and Shovel Shop Dam (“Dam”) will allow the Town to control the water of levels and minimize potential environmental impacts to downstream ponds and streams," the article states. "The Pond and Dam will be an additional component of the system of dams and waterways currently owned by the Town of Easton."
