For the Family of DJ Henry, Ferguson and New York Are a Familiar Sight
The family of DJ Henry recently reflected on the recent protests in Ferguson and New York.

For the family of DJ Henry, the protest over the recent grand jury decisions to clear the police officers involved in the deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, and Eric Garner in New York remind the family of the death of Henry in 2007.
“Our life has been a life of protest, from October 2010 until now,” Dan Henry, DJ Henry’s father told WCVB.
In 2010, DJ Henry, a 2007 graduate of Oliver Ames High School, was shot through the window of his car as he drove away from a disturbance outside a bar in Thornwood, N.Y.

The Pleasantville police officer who shot him said that Henry drove at him, forcing him to shoot but testimony given under oath in a civil suit said that Henry never drove at the officer, but rather the officer jumped on the car and started shooting at Henry.
As for Henry’s death, his father vows to continue to fight for justice for his son.

“We will join their voices, and the voices of all those concerned, if they are using force unlawfully that by definition is murder, that dishonors their service and they should be held accountable for that,” Dan Henry said.
Dan Henry said that the Department of Justice is reviewing the death and whether there is enough evidence to file charges against the officer that killed Henry. He says a decision is expected soon.
There is also a civil suit against the officer and the township involved.
