Community Update

In a downpour, on Saturday, April 26, School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) enjoyed an outpouring of support for the fourth annual Outrunning Homelessness 5K/2.6 Mile Race & Fun Walk. More than 600 caring souls with soggy soles came out to DCR's Borderland State Park in Easton to make the event an overwhelming success.

Outrunning Homelessness 2014, co-chaired by SOWMA Board of Director members Cathy Adler and Dennis Harkins, race director, attracted over 600 registered participants, more than 20 corporate sponsors, and raised over $40,600, exceeding its target goal by $4,600! Money raised by this event will help SOWMA to continue serving students who have no place to call home.

This year's event was generously supported by anchor sponsor Crescent Credit Union, with additional support from and Marcus, Errico, Emmer & BrooksColumbia GasEvolution Sports PerformanceWizard Computer Services, Inc.Mutual BankUnity Church of North Easton,Good Samaritan HospitalMorse Insurance Agency, Cathy Adler and Ellen Dehm, The Richard McGrail Family, Old Colony YMCABoston Capital, and Maplewood Country Day Camp.

By once again exceeding its goal, the purpose of SOWMA’s Outrunning Homelessness 5K/2.6 Mile Race & Fun Walk continues and is strengthened--to bring the community together to support SOWMA’s mission of providing academic support and one-on-one tutoring/mentoring to children impacted by homelessness.
