New Lawn Watering Regulations For Easton

To comply with state laws, Easton residents will be allowed to water their lawns on certain days of the week, at certain times.

To comply with state laws, which allow for residential gallons per capita day to be 65 gallons or less in Easton, the Board of Selectmen voted Monday night to put new restrictions on town watering regulations.

Beginning May 1, even numbered addresses will be restricted to allow lawn watering only on Monday and Thursday between the hours of 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Odd numbered addresses will be restricted to allow lawn watering only on Tuesday and Friday between the the same hours. Handheld hoses will be allowed anytime.

The changes were proposed by Water Division Operation Manager John Marsh, who said water use had increased to 67 gallons per day last summer, due to what he called "a dry summer." Previously, homeowners were restricted to watering days based on odd and even monthly numbers.

"We’ll work even harder this year because people think its going to be the same restriction," Marsh said.

Residents who do not follow regulations will be given a written warning on the first offense, a $50 fine on the second offense and a $100 fine on subsequent offenses.

"The last thing we want to do is fine any body.." said Marsh. "..The residents of Easton have been great, too. A lot of them just don’t understand [the regulations] and a lot of them need to change their timers."
