Southeastern Technical Institute (STI) Offers Scholarships for New Cosmetology Program
(South Easton) Graduation season is a period of pride, accomplishment and planning for a bright future. But how does a student increase his or her chance of satisfying employment after commencement? What industries are likely to offer the most opportunities, both now and in the future?
After a careful market analysis, Southeastern Technical Institute - the adult education component of Southeastern Regional School District - chose to expand their offerings to include Cosmetology, an industry with current openings, and projected industry growth for 2012-2022. The Institute’s application with the Department of Education was pre-approved in March of 2014 as a Chapter 74 program, and is now working its way through the Cosmetology Board of Massachusetts and application for accreditation by the Council on Occupational Education for a new program.
STI is now offering generous scholarships to the first 25 students who enroll in the upcoming new Cosmetology Program. Each award amounts to $4,650, leaving in-district students (Brockton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Foxboro, Mansfield, Norton, Sharon, Stoughton and West Bridgewater) with a $350 tuition instead of $5,000. Out of district students receive the same tuition award amount off their $9,000 out of district tuition - still a savings compared with comparable local programs amounting to $15,000-$20,000. Fees and book costs are the same for in or out of district students. In addition to the tuition costs, students will pay $1,550.00 in fees (of which they will receive $1,000.00 in tools), and $235.00 towards books.

The 14 month program will run from January 2015 - April 2016, Monday through Thursday evenings from 4:00-9:30 pm, with a half hour dinner break. It includes both theory and practical components offered by experienced teachers, and based on the needs set forth in the Massachusetts Board of Cosmetology rules and regulations. Students completing the course receive a certificate of completion for 1,000 hours of Cosmetology study, and eligibility to sit as a candidate to take the Massachusetts Board of Cosmetology licensing exam, in order to practice cosmetology in the state of Massachusetts.
To be eligible, applicants must follow admission standards, such as filling out applications, completing the Accuplacer admissions test and participate in an interview. Interest is high in this unique opportunity and several scholarships have already been awarded.
