2 More Falmouth Lifeguards Test Positive For Coronavirus: Town

The two new cases, which were reported Sunday, take the total of lifeguards to test positive to 10 after 8 cases were reported last week.

FALMOUTH, MA – A total of 10 lifeguards have now tested positive for the coronavirus after two more cases were reported Sunday night, town manager Julian Suso confirmed on Monday.

The two new additional cases come a week after at least eight lifeguards tested positive after attending a party. Town officials became aware of at least one case last week before the Town Select Board was made aware of the additional cases at a meeting.

Acting beach superintendent Maggie Clayton told the board that lifeguards were told by supervisors not to divulge that they had tested positive.

One of the two new cases was self-reported and was not tested at one of the free test sites that were set up by town officials. The other, Suso said, was confirmed after the lifeguard was tested at Cape Cod Healthcare through the agreement.

“We appreciate all who are conducting themselves in a responsible manner during these challenging times, consistent with the social distancing, sanitizing, isolation and quarantine protocols in place to protect them and all those we are privileged to serve,” Suso said in the statement.

Suso said that both lifeguards that have been infected by the virus are self-quarantining and have been removed from the work schedule according to protocol.
