CAPE COD, MA — The Cape’s summer tourism season is underway, and businesses are wondering how they may fare amid a “perfect storm” of challenges.
They include high gas prices, anti-U.S. sentiment in Canada, immigration enforcement that could affect the seasonal workforce, and other factors.
Woods Hole-based public radio station WCAI discussed the business outlook with Paul Niedzwiecki, CEO of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.
Some highlights: The short-term rental business is trending up, while the great white sharks appearing in Cape waters don’t seem to affect the local economy. In fact, they may help.
