FALMOUTH, MA — A Massachusetts State Trooper was dragged by a fleeing vehicle on the Bourne Bridge Thursday morning, police said.
A trooper on patrol attempted to pull the vehicle over as it approached the Bourne Bridge about 9:30 a.m., the state police said in a media release.
"With heavy traffic on the Bourne Bridge, additional Troopers joined, and tried to get the driver to exit the vehicle," the release said.
"When the driver’s door was open, the car began to move, dragging one of the Troopers several feet," according to the release.
The vehicle then took off, the release said, and state police and the Falmouth police launched a search involving aircraft and police dogs, the release said.
A short time later, the driver was located outside a residence in East Falmouth, according to the release, and the state police "STOP Team and Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section responded to the residence where the suspect was initially non-compliant."
The driver was "eventually taken into custody," the release said, and the dragged trooper was "transported to be evaluated for what appear to be minor injuries."
