Additional West Nile Virus-Positive Mosquito Samples Detected in Falmouth; First Detection in Chatham (capecod.gov) ā Falmouth residents are being urged to step up mosquito precautions after additional West Nile virusāpositive mosquito samples were detected in town, keeping Falmouth's risk level at "moderate." County and state health officials recommend eliminating standing water, using EPAāapproved repellents, covering up at dusk and dawn, and checking window and door screens while regional mosquito surveillance continues through the season.

2. 1,260-Pound Blue Marlin Landed Off Massachusetts Is the Biggest Ever Caught on the East Coast (onthewater.com) ā A massive 1,260āpound blue marlin was hauled into Falmouth Harbor on August 19, drawing big crowds to MacDougall's Cape Cod Marine as it shattered the Massachusetts state record and set a new East Coast mark. Locals and visitors watched the fish get weighed, shared in the meat, and learned its head will go to researchers studying Atlantic billfish.

Pulitzer Prizes, American Library Association present new traveling exhibition (editorandpublisher.com) ā Falmouth readers can look forward to a major national exhibition, as Falmouth Public Library is slated to host "Pulitzer on the Road" for six weeks in July 2027. The free, 1,400-square-foot display will showcase Pulitzer Prize-winning journalism, literature, drama, and music, with interactive stations and related programs that highlight storytelling's role in democracy and local civic life.

Villain to hero: Cape Codders chime in on (now) beloved horseshoe crabs (capeandislands.org) ā A Falmouth fifth-grader, Jackson Fenstermaker, helps explain why Atlantic horseshoe crabs are so fascinating, from their blue blood to their many eyes, after attending Waquoit Bay Summer Science School. The story traces how research in Woods Hole turned these ancient creatures from scapegoats into biomedical heroes and explores a pending Beacon Hill bill to name them Massachusetts' official marine invertebrate.
