β’ West Nile Virus Alert: Falmouth and Chatham Mosquito Samples Test Positive, Risk Levels Elevated (wror.com) β West Nile virus has been detected in Falmouth mosquitoes, and state health officials now list the town at a moderate risk level, so residents should take bite prevention seriously. Local and state experts urge you to dump standing water, use EPA-approved repellents, wear long sleeves at dusk and dawn, and repair window screens while mosquito surveillance continues across Cape Cod.

β’ Steamship Approves Veterans' Half-Price Fares (vineyardgazette.com) β Falmouth veterans who use the Steamship Authority can now apply for half-price passenger fares, thanks to a new policy that also covers Barnstable, New Bedford, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket veterans. Eligible veterans must submit proof of residence and service, with bad conduct and dishonorable discharges excluded, and the board also approved priority bookings for honor guards traveling to veterans' funerals.

Caught about 100 miles off Cape Cod, the massive fish is now headed to University of Maine scientists for aging, while locals share the meat and swap stories about the onceβinβaβlifetime haul.
