Museums on the Green presents its second annual Historic Homes Tour

Falmouth Museums on the Green Invites the Public to step inside Falmouth’s maritime past during their second annual Historic Homes Tour. This self-guided tour of historic homes explores the people, places and stories shaped by Falmouth’s maritime history.

FALMOUTH, MA, August 21, 2026: Falmouth’s maritime history will come to life on Sunday, September 13th, when the Museums on the Green presents its second annual Historic Homes Tour, this year focusing on the Houses of Falmouth Sea Captains. The event invites visitors to step inside a collection of remarkable properties connected to the people and industries that helped shape the community.

Held from 12 to 4 p.m., the self-guided tour offers a rare opportunity to explore historic homes throughout Falmouth and discover the stories of the sea captains, families and maritime industries whose lives helped define the character of Cape Cod.

“Falmouth’s history is preserved in the homes, streets and landscapes that are still part of our community today,” said Rachel Lovett, Executive Director. “This tour gives people the opportunity to experience that history firsthand and to see the places where generations of Falmouth families lived, worked and built their lives.”

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, the Historic Homes Tour returns by popular demand. Last year’s tour sold out, and advance ticket purchase is encouraged.

Details: A Tour Through Falmouth’s Maritime History

Rather than following a traditional guided-tour format, the event allows participants to create their own afternoon of discovery. Ticket holders will begin at Museums on the Green, 55 Palmer Avenue, where they will pick up their entry materials and a map of the participating properties.

From there, guests can travel to the homes in any order they choose. Parking is available at each tour location, though spaces may be limited at some homes. Carpooling is encouraged when possible. At each location, visitors will be able to explore the property at their own pace, with Museums on the Green staff available to provide assistance and additional historical context.

Among the properties featured is the 1790 Dr. Francis Wicks House, located at Museums on the Green. The historic house is the focus of the organization’s Fix the Wicks Campaign, an effort to preserve and restore this important Falmouth landmark for future generations.

The tour offers an especially meaningful opportunity to experience the Wicks House as part of the larger story of Falmouth’s historic homes and the people who shaped the town.

Experience Falmouth’s History and Make a Day of It

The event also encourages visitors to explore the broader Falmouth community while traveling between tour locations. Ticket holders will receive a special 15% discount on food at The Courtyard Restaurant in Cataumet on September 13th, providing an opportunity to extend the historic-home experience into an afternoon in the community to enjoy a meal among fellow tour-goers and neighbors.

Tickets include entry to the participating homes and the official tour map. All ticket holders must check in at Museums on the Green on the day of the event to receive their materials and begin the tour.

Advance tickets are strongly recommended, as last year’s event sold out.
