April Showers will bring May flowers

Baseball has started, and many more programs begin next week!!!

Falmouth Recreation Department

A typical saying this time of year in New England is “April showers will bring May flowers.” Although the weather has been anything but typical this year, the month of April is coming to an end either way. Last Saturday was the opening day for the Youth Baseball Program and the initial reports from the all the leagues were positive. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. Preparing the parks and fields in the early hours on Saturday provided a peaceful and serene setting. As the town woke up and began the day, the drones of families invaded the various ball parks and fields in town. The Recreation Department Staff knew that spring had finally arrived. Soaking up the sun, listening to the birds chirping, and the smell of fresh cut grass in the air had reminded us once again why we appreciate being outdoors this time of year. We would like to thank all of the parents and volunteers that have stepped forward to coach the baseball, softball, and t-ball teams, as these programs couldn’t exist without your efforts. Your dedication is noteworthy.

The month of May is marked by more than just transitions in the weather, as we have many programs and events firing up as well. The Archery program begins on Monday, May 4th, and Mr. Olenick is very excited to ‘hit the target’ with middle school students once again. The Early Engineers program begins on Wednesday, May 6th, and it is offered to grades 1 and 2 at the Teaticket Elementary School. The Early Engineers program is aimed for children that enjoy building things and playing with LEGOS. We’re really looking forward to launching this unique program. We are also offering a program at the Morse Pond School this spring called the Animal Rescue Quest. This program begins on Friday, May 15th and is limited to 14 students total. On this amazing program, we will lead expeditions across town in search of different animals at various locations (aquarium, rivers, farms, etc.) In addition, we have a very special family event on Friday, May 1st called the Mother & Son Dance. This is a very popular event from years past, celebrating the special relationship sons and mothers have, while enjoying some fun dancing at the Gus Canty Community Center. Don’t worry, because the Father & Daughter Dance will be coming soon, as this special family event is scheduled for Friday, June 5th.
