Resistance &amp; Resilience: The Road From The Revolution In Falmouth, 1779–1850
Members’ Opening Thursday, June 4th at 4pm. Exhibition Runs June 5, 2026 to May 10, 2027.
This new exhibition invites visitors to explore how the people of Falmouth experienced the American Revolution and how those moments shaped a new national identity in the decades that followed. Beginning in 1775, Falmouth’s residents played an active role in the fight for independence, guarding the coast, supplying troops, and supporting privateering efforts. In April of 1779, the war arrived on their doorstep when a young boy carried word of a planned British attack across seven miles of water, allowing local militia under Major Joseph Dimmick to successfully defend the town in a dramatic and defining moment now known as the Battle of Falmouth, the only land battle on Cape Cod during the Revolution.
The exhibition continues through the War of 1812, when Falmouth again faced British assault, and into the early nineteenth century, as the community turned from conflict to growth and industry. Visitors will discover how ordinary people navigated uncertainty, rebuilt their lives, and contributed to the shaping of a new nation. Through stories of bravery, endurance, and everyday life, the exhibition traces the emergence of early American ideals including faith, resilience, and opportunity. Grounded in local history but national in scope, this exhibition reveals how Falmouth’s past reflects the broader story of America’s beginnings.

Next meeting is Thursday, June 4 at 6 p.m. Time may adjust slightly with the seasons and setting sun. This club will meet until winter when southern migration starts in earnest.

We’ll meet and mingle in the community room, share sightings, photos, successful locations and tips followed by a group migration to the garden for a group sit and observation.
Bringing along a portable chair is encouraged (available outdoor seating is limited) and your favorite binoculars. Since we will be meeting inside first, you’re welcome to leave your chair on the back patio while we gather inside.

<a href="https://www.artbybuccino.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Caroline Buccino</a> is the library’s artist of the month for June.&nbsp;Whether working with florals, shells, printmaking, or collage, her art reflects an ongoing fascination with recreating the organic textures and movement found along the coast. Caroline holds a Master’s Degree in&nbsp;in oboe performance from New England Conservatory and serves as Music Director and Arts Department Chair at Falmouth Academy.&nbsp;Works on display will be for sale.In addition to original pieces, Caroline creates custom commissioned works and shares her art through her website <a href="https://artbybuccino.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Artbybuccino.com</a> and at local art fairs throughout the summer. Caroline also teaches group classes, making art accessible and fun for everyone. Her next class is Monday, June 15 from 6–8 p.m. at Uva Wine Bar. Pedal Through the Past: A Bike Tour with the Falmouth Historical Society
June 5th, 1:30pm
Spring is in the air—the best time of year for a long bicycle ride!&nbsp; If you love bicycling and history, please join us for a new historic bike tour around Falmouth on Friday, June 5th.
Museum docent and tour guide Scott Wayne will lead a small pack of cyclists on a route that loops from the Village Green, down to Woods Hole’s Penzance Point, and back again.
Much of the trip takes place along the Shining Sea Bikeway, which was dedicated in November 1975 as part of the town’s U.S. Bicentennial celebration.&nbsp; Now that we’re marking the 250th birthday of the United States in 2026, it’s an especially good time to revisit the bikeway and to discover a variety of historic landmarks nearby.
This unique tour will recreate a journey first taken by Falmouth citizens in September 1930. In that year, Massachusetts was celebrating its 300th birthday, and each town placed markers at its own most cherished historic sites.&nbsp; Falmouth residents made a solemn procession to nine locations, unveiling memorial plaques at each stop.&nbsp; They traveled on foot and by motorcar, and no doubt a few hardy souls joined the parade on their bicycles!
These historic markers have stood for 96 years.&nbsp; You may have been passing them by for years without even noticing them. &nbsp;Some locations, like the Village Green, you can probably guess.&nbsp; Others may be news to you (Ever heard of General Swift’s birthplace?).&nbsp; Our bike tour will stop at each location, where Scott will explain its significance and show vintage photos.&nbsp;&nbsp; Counting the time spent at these stops, the tour should take about three hours.

The Falmouth Historical Society and the Falmouth Garden Club are pleased to provide the opportunity to tour the spectacular gardens at the Museums on the Green this summer! Take a walking tour of each of the five gardens in this beautiful location led by Falmouth Garden Club members.
Tours on Tuesday or Saturday at 11am, allowing time to visit the buildings.

Sea Stars Early Learning Center offers a balanced program that incorporates play-based learning, structured lessons, and physical activities. Children are encouraged to explore their interests, whether through music, art, science, or outdoor exploration. The facility features a large, secure outdoor play area with age-appropriate equipment. Children spend plenty of time outdoors, engaging in physical play and exploring nature. There may also be gardening activities. The building is designed with child safety in mind, featuring soft corners, non-toxic materials, and secure fencing around outdoor areas. Access points are monitored and locked to ensure only authorized individuals can enter. There’s a first aid kit and trained staff on hand at all times to handle any emergencies. The classrooms and play areas are spotless, with an abundance of natural light streaming in through large windows. The space is well-organized, with age-appropriate toys, books, and learning materials accessible to children. There’s a cozy reading nook, art stations, and sensory play areas where kids can explore their creativity. Our staff is certified in child development, first aid, and CPR, but they also have a genuine passion for working with children. Melissa Anderson and Leigh-Ellen Ferreira are two Falmouth natives who have spent many years working with children.
