Join us at the opening reception to honor the exceptional talent on display. The subject matter varies widely, capturing moments in time for us to enjoy. "Still Life with Cat" by Athena Carey is this year's Best in Show. This stunning piece will be awarded alongside four Juror Awards during the evening's festivities.

Sea Education Association (SEA)

On Saturday, May 9, 2026 the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary's Woods Hole Flotilla will be conducting the one-day&nbsp;BOAT AMERICA&nbsp;boating safety class. The class will be held at the Sea Education Association at 171 Woods Hole Rd, Falmouth MA 02540. The time of the class is 8:30am (registration) until approximately 5pm. The cost is $25 per person.
This is an approved National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) 8-hour (one day) class. It provides the general knowledge needed to obtain the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Safety Certificate and the Massachusetts Environmental Police (MEP) safe boating "license".&nbsp;
Currently, the MEP license is&nbsp;required for youth ages 12 through 15 to operate any motorized vessel alone, as well as youth ages 16 and 17 to operate a personal watercraft (Jet Ski®) alone.&nbsp;This course also meets the requirements for the new&nbsp;Massachusetts Safe Boating Act which will require persons of all ages who&nbsp;operate a&nbsp;motor vessel in&nbsp;Massachusetts to have an MEP license. Operators born after January 1, 1989, must obtain this license by April 1, 2026. Those born on or before January 1989 have until April 1, 2028.&nbsp;
TOPICS INCLUDE: Introduction to: Boat types, Boating Law, Boat Safety Equipment, Safe Boating, Navigation, Boating Problems, Trailering, Storing and Protecting Your Boat.
Registration confirmation is done by email and students must be registered by Thursday prior to the event.

<a href="https://www.thecoalitionforchildren.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">The Coalition for Children</a> and West Falmouth Library present a series of STEAM Play &amp; Learn groups for children! Early Learning Specialist Mary Wilson leads this parent-child play &amp; learn group, exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math and flower-themed stories. This free event is Saturday, May 9, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Library. Geared towards children ages 3 – 6 years. All participation levels welcome. Space is limited. Registration required.
The Coalition for Children is an education and support program for caregivers with children from birth to age 6 funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. Our programs are available at no cost to families thanks to the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) Grant.

Artwork by Philip Dutra will be displayed at The Gallery at FCTV from May 4 through May 29. A reception with the artist will be held on Sunday, May 17th, from 3-5pm.
Raised on Cape Cod, Philip Dutra draws on a lifetime of coastal experience to create paintings that emphasize clarity, restraint, and the natural beauty of the sea. Before committing fully to art, he worked in the boating industry, an experience that deepened his understanding of water, movement, and light—elements that now define his work. His background in architectural engineering also informs his sense of structure and composition.
Dutra’s paintings reflect a lifelong connection to the shoreline. Having spent decades immersed in the coastal environment, he finds continual inspiration in its shifting colors and moods. His approach centers on simplifying complex scenes, allowing essential forms and atmosphere to emerge without excess detail.
For Dutra, art is both personal expression and a way to evoke shared memories. He aims to create work that resonates emotionally while maintaining technical discipline. When faced with creative challenges, he steps away, often turning to quiet reflection or movement to regain perspective.
He believes artistic growth comes from persistence, observation, and a willingness to learn through process. The coast remains both his subject and his refuge—a constant source of inspiration that continues to shape his work and vision.
The Gallery at FCTV is located within the Falmouth Community Media Center, which is at 310E Dillingham Ave., easily accessible by Rose Morin Lane. FCTV and Gallery Hours: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu: 10-8pm, Fri: 10am-6pm. Sat: Closed, Sun: 12-8pm.

Yoga with Chelsea, Wednesdays starting May 6, from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Chelsea’s class is gentle and appropriate for beginners. At the same time, almost everyone will find challenge in it, since we work with a range of skills: balance, strength, mobility, coordination, mental focus, and the skill of relaxing. Yoga is great at finding those neglected or hurting parts of our bodies and coaxing them into more freedom of movement, ease, and grace.
Classes include brief periods of quiet meditation, movement in and out of yoga poses, movement explorations influenced by various somatic traditions besides yoga, and there is always a period of quiet resting at the end of class, for a chance to enjoy all the benefits. After class, students tend to feel lighter, looser, and more clear-headed and connected.
Please bring a yoga mat if you have one. If you don’t, there will be several to borrow. Other props you might have, such as blocks, are helpful to bring as well.

Cockerell's dazzling, innovative family memoir tells the story of the plan to create a Jewish state in Texas, just one of several plans that spun off of Zionism's focus on Palestine. It's an utterly absorbing read and fascinating chapter of both our country's and Jewish history.
 
On June 7, 1907, a ship packed with Russian Jews set sail for a promised land: not Jerusalem or New York, as many on board had dreamed, but Texas. This was the beginning of the Galveston Plan, which brought to the Gulf Coast ten thousand Jews fleeing the persecution and brutality of the Russian Empire. It was a plan conceived of by Zionists impatient for an alternative to Palestine. Their motto: “If we cannot get the Holy Land, we can make another land holy.” Led in their search for a temporary homeland by the renowned novelist Israel Zangwill and by Rachel Cockerell’s great-grandfather, David Jochelmann, they scoured the Earth before reluctantly settling on Galveston. Zangwill feared the Jewish identity would be lost in the great American melting pot, but he saw no other hope. 
 
Cockerell weaves together diaries, letters, newspaper articles, and interviews in a highly inventive style. Constructed entirely of primary sources, with one flowing into the next, the book lets long-dead voices reanimate, jostle for space, and converge to tell their stories with a novelistic vividness and detail. We follow Zangwill and the Jochelmann family through two world wars and to London, New York, and Jerusalem as their lives intertwine with those of memorable figures of the twentieth century―Theodore Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Ernest Hemingway, and more. Melting Point asks what it means to belong, what can be salvaged from the obscured past, and whether a promised land can ever live up to its promises.</th></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table><table><tbody><tr><td><table><tbody><tr><th><a href="https://www.falmouthjewish.org." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"></a></th></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table>

Sea Stars Early Learning Center

Sea Stars Early Learning Center offers a balanced program that incorporates play-based learning, structured lessons, and physical activities. Children are encouraged to explore their interests, whether through music, art, science, or outdoor exploration. There’s a focus on developmental milestones, including fine motor skills, communication, and social interaction. The facility focuses on helping children develop strong social skills through group activities, games, and cooperative learning. There’s an emphasis on emotional intelligence, teaching kids how to manage their feelings and resolve conflicts peacefully. Our amazing helps kids learn to share, collaborate, and support one another, fostering a sense of community. The facility embraces children from all backgrounds and is sensitive to cultural differences, making sure all children feel accepted and valued. The facility features a large, secure outdoor play area with age-appropriate equipment. Children spend plenty of time outdoors, engaging in physical play and exploring nature. There may also be gardening activities. The building is designed with child safety in mind, featuring soft corners, non-toxic materials, and secure fencing around outdoor areas. Access points are monitored and locked to ensure only authorized individuals can enter. There’s a first aid kit and trained staff on hand at all times to handle any emergencies. The classrooms and play areas are spotless, with an abundance of natural light streaming in through large windows. The space is well-organized, with age-appropriate toys, books, and learning materials accessible to children. There’s a cozy reading nook, art stations, and sensory play areas where kids can explore their creativity. Our staff is certified in child development, first aid, and CPR, but they also have a genuine passion for working with children. Melissa Anderson and Leigh-Ellen Ferreira are two Falmouth natives who have spent many years working with children.
