We’ll meet and mingle in the community room, share sightings, photos, successful locations and tips followed by a group migration to the garden for a group sit and observation.
Bringing along a portable chair is encouraged (available outdoor seating is limited) and your favorite binoculars. Since we will be meeting inside first, you’re welcome to leave your chair on the back patio while we gather inside.

 In the rainforests
 of Central and South America, tiny poison frog parents make an 
extraordinary investment: they return again and again to their young, 
delivering unfertilized eggs as food. In response, their tadpoles 
perform a striking “begging dance,” signaling their hunger with precise,
 stereotyped movements. How does a developing brain generate this 
behavior—and how do parents recognize and respond to it? The O’Connell 
lab uses this vivid interaction to explore how internal states like 
hunger are translated into communication, and how early social 
experiences shape the brain. By following this dialogue between parent 
and offspring, her lab’s work uncovers fundamental principles of how 
brains give rise to social behavior, from the very start of life.
Lauren A. O’Connell
 received her B.A. from Cornell University and her Ph.D. in Cellular and
 Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Austin. She was a 
Bauer Fellow at Harvard University, where she established her 
independent research program. Dr. O’Connell is currently an Associate 
Professor of Biology at Stanford University. Her research uses 
comparative and interdisciplinary approaches to understand how brains 
generate social behavior, with a focus on parental care and 
communication in poison frogs. She has received numerous honors, 
including the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, the Pew Biomedical 
Scholar Award, and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists 
and Engineers from President Biden.

Community Day for the 250th 
Come celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with the Town of Falmouth at the&nbsp;Museums on the Green – Falmouth Historical Society! This free, family-friendly event features food trucks, live music, historic lawn games, hands-on crafts, and complimentary admission to our historic properties and museums.
Events will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, followed by live patriotic music. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy Colonial‑era games, crafts, caricature artist renderings, and a variety of offerings from local food trucks. The historic Wicks House will also be open for tours, offering a glimpse into Falmouth’s rich past. Join us as we commemorate this special milestone in our town’s history with community, creativity, and celebration.11:30am: Character reading of the Declaration of Independence
12 noon: Church Bell ringing
12 - 3: Patriotic musician

Falmouth’s Paul Revere Bell–Hear It Ring, See His Signature: At 12noon on July 3, come hear an extended celebratory ringing of the First Congregational Church’s bell, made by patriot hero Paul Revere. The church doors will be open from 12noon to 1:00pm for a rare public viewing of the original 1796 receipt signed by Mr. Revere. First Congregational Church of Falmouth, 68 Main Street.

Arnie Allen Diamond at Guv Fuller Field

The Falmouth Commodores welcome all veterans and active military members to Military Appreciation Night at Guv Fuller Field. The event will be held on Friday, July 3, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Major General Virginia I. Gaglio, Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, will be throwing the first pitch and yelling "play ball". Military personnel will receive a complimentary 250 anniversary commemorative coin, raffle ticket, and discount on merchandise.

Sea Stars Early Learning Center

Sea Stars Early Learning Center offers a balanced program that incorporates play-based learning, structured lessons, and physical activities. Children are encouraged to explore their interests, whether through music, art, science, or outdoor exploration. There’s a focus on developmental milestones, including fine motor skills, communication, and social interaction. The facility focuses on helping children develop strong social skills through group activities, games, and cooperative learning. There’s an emphasis on emotional intelligence, teaching kids how to manage their feelings and resolve conflicts peacefully. Our amazing helps kids learn to share, collaborate, and support one another, fostering a sense of community. The facility embraces children from all backgrounds and is sensitive to cultural differences, making sure all children feel accepted and valued. The facility features a large, secure outdoor play area with age-appropriate equipment. Children spend plenty of time outdoors, engaging in physical play and exploring nature. There may also be gardening activities. The building is designed with child safety in mind, featuring soft corners, non-toxic materials, and secure fencing around outdoor areas. Access points are monitored and locked to ensure only authorized individuals can enter. There’s a first aid kit and trained staff on hand at all times to handle any emergencies. The classrooms and play areas are spotless, with an abundance of natural light streaming in through large windows. The space is well-organized, with age-appropriate toys, books, and learning materials accessible to children. There’s a cozy reading nook, art stations, and sensory play areas where kids can explore their creativity. Our staff is certified in child development, first aid, and CPR, but they also have a genuine passion for working with children. Melissa Anderson and Leigh-Ellen Ferreira are two Falmouth natives who have spent many years working with children.
