At the end of the presentation, we encourage participants to join us down at the town dock for a boat ride. This event is targeted towards young kids, but would be engaging for anyone 3+. Free!

Denise Leone began her creative journey by creating mobiles and wind chimes, transforming these coastal treasures into unique, handcrafted pieces. Through mixed media work, she combines her love of nature, appreciation for craftsmanship, and interest in culture and design. Each piece reflects the beauty of Cape Cod, the beaches around the world, and the stories found along its shores, with the hope of inspiring others to see the natural world through art. Of her work, Denise says: “My inspiration comes from living on Cape Cod and from my family’s rich artistic heritage. Surrounded by miles of beautiful beaches, I find endless inspiration in nature. While exploring the shoreline, I collect treasures such as seashells, sea glass, driftwood, and other natural elements that become the foundation of my artwork.”
From childhood, Anne Torry-Ballou wanted to be an artist. Family outings into woods, fields, hills, along streams and rivers, and the shores of several states, instilled a love and respect for nature. Respected art teachers in school taught her to look at the world and notice lights and shadows, color hues and complements, depth and perspective. Early lessons in art history gave her insight into the world of painting, and she was specifically drawn to the work of the French Impressionists.
Working almost exclusively with acrylic paint, with occasional forays into watercolor studies, she uses photographs as references to document placeholders in the development of the work. A chiaroscuro sketch on the canvas is made using burnt and raw sienna, white, and burnt and raw umber. The work is developed to capture light, shadows, color, and energy by applying color in layers of paint and glazes. While her recent work is primarily landscapes and seascapes, she also creates floral paintings and occasionally takes on commissions.
Colleen Corson is a multimedia artist and clothing designer who believes that art shouldn’t just hang on a wall – it should be lived in, moved in, and experienced. Her journey as an artist is rooted in a deep love for texture, color, and storytelling. On canvas, she expresses this through multimedia painting, blending different materials and techniques to create rich, layered visual narratives. As a clothing designer, Colleen views garments as wearable canvases. Her designs are created for those who see fashion as a form of personal expression, blending thoughtful craftsmanship with a modern, artistic aesthetic. “Whether I am manipulating paint on a canvas or fabric on a form, my goal remains the same: to create distinct, authentic pieces that speak to the soul,” says Colleen.

From the most respected minister to the lowliest outcast, everyone in Falmouth ended up here eventually. See their markers and hear their stories as our tour guide leads you through this hidden gem of a cemetery.
* The Old Burying Ground tour meets at the top of Cemetery Lane.
Parking: Please park in the lot at 157 Locust Street. Use the crosswalk to cross Locust St. and head toward the large boulder of the Mariners’ Memorial. Opposite the Memorial, across Mill Rd., join your tour guide at the top of Cemetery Lane. Recommended for ages 13+ and those who can navigate uneven terrain.
Meeting Point: The Old Burying Ground tour begins at the top of Cemetery Lane. Free, suggested donation of $5pp. Limit of 20 people per walk, pre-registration required.

“Neurobiology of Thirst and Hunger Drives” Liqun Luo, Stanford University. 
Because of the utmost importance of water and food, animals exhibit&nbsp;strong innate behaviors to search for and consume water or food when&nbsp;they are thirsty or hungry. These innate drives are also powerful means&nbsp;for acquiring learned skills and behaviors. In this lecture, I will&nbsp;summarize our recent work linking thirst to motivated behavior and&nbsp;investigating neural dynamics underlying thirst motivation. I will&nbsp;further discuss how animals resolve competing needs, such as thirst and&nbsp;hunger, across time.Liqun Luo grew up in Shanghai, China. He received his bachelor's degree&nbsp;from the University of Science &amp; Technology of China, Ph.D. from&nbsp;Brandeis University, and postdoctoral training at UCSF. Together with&nbsp;his students and postdocs in his lab at Stanford University, Dr. Luo&nbsp;studies how neural circuits are assembled during development and how&nbsp;their architectures enable them to perform specific functions in adults.&nbsp;Dr. Luo is currently the Ann and Bill Swindells Professor of Humanities&nbsp;and Sciences, Professor of Biology, and Professor of Neurobiology by&nbsp;courtesy, at Stanford University. He is also an Investigator of the&nbsp;Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Luo teaches neurobiology to&nbsp;undergraduate and graduate students. His single-author textbook&nbsp;“Principles of Neurobiology” is widely used for undergraduate and&nbsp;graduate courses across the world. Dr. Luo is a Member of the National&nbsp;Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and&nbsp;Sciences, and recipient of many awards, including the Pradel Research&nbsp;Award and NAS Award in the Neurosciences from the National Academy of&nbsp;Sciences, and the Edward M. Scolnick Prize in Neuroscience.

Falmouth Art Center presents a Dance Performance by Dunya McPherson

At <a href="https://www.instagram.com/northeast_dyeworks/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Northeast Dyeworks</a>, visitors will find a mix of new and upcycled textiles crafted with reverence for the natural world. Every piece is hand-dyed with botanicals, and all materials are grown in the home garden, sustainably foraged, or responsibly sourced.
<a href="https://northeastdyeworks.com/about" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Rebecca Zaremba</a> is the maker behind Northeast Dyeworks. Inspired by a lifelong love of nature, her work centers on translating the beauty of plants and flowers into lasting color on textiles, creating pieces that reflect both place and season. When she isn’t working with botanicals, she can be found teaching and learning alongside tiny humans as an early childhood educator. She lives in East Sandwich with her husband and son, where she’s continually inspired by the natural world around her. We are proud to have her as our July Artist of the Month. Items on display are for sale.

Sea Stars Early Learning Center offers a balanced program that incorporates play-based learning, structured lessons, and physical activities. Children are encouraged to explore their interests, whether through music, art, science, or outdoor exploration. There’s a focus on developmental milestones, including fine motor skills, communication, and social interaction. The facility focuses on helping children develop strong social skills through group activities, games, and cooperative learning. The facility features a large, secure outdoor play area with age-appropriate equipment. Children spend plenty of time outdoors, engaging in physical play and exploring nature. There may also be gardening activities. The building is designed with child safety in mind, featuring soft corners, non-toxic materials, and secure fencing around outdoor areas. Access points are monitored and locked to ensure only authorized individuals can enter. There’s a first aid kit and trained staff on hand at all times to handle any emergencies. The classrooms and play areas are spotless, with an abundance of natural light streaming in through large windows. The space is well-organized, with age-appropriate toys, books, and learning materials accessible to children. There’s a cozy reading nook, art stations, and sensory play areas where kids can explore their creativity. Our staff is certified in child development, first aid, and CPR, but they also have a genuine passion for working with children. Melissa Anderson and Leigh-Ellen Ferreira are two Falmouth natives who have spent many years working with children.
