Petty Officers Evan Staph and Derrick Suba on Friday were awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal, respectively.
The rescue happened Feb. 15 during a winter storm that churned up hurricane-force and ripped the sails of the Sedona, which was piloted by an Austalian father-son team.

Despite the awful flying conditions, the crew navigated a Jayhawk helicopter to the disabled boat, which was floating 150 miles south of Nantucket as 25-foot waves crashed into it.
“Our purpose was to get them home,” said Suba in a statement. “We kept going to make sure we got them home.”
