Cape Cod Man With 18 DUIs Drunk Again In Crash: Police

Police said a Cape Cod man with 18 drunk driving charges was drunk again in a Falmouth crash. Francis Vierkant, 58, was seriously hurt.

FALMOUTH, MA — A Cape Cod man with 18 drunk driving charges on his record was drunk again during a serious crash in Falmouth Thursday night, according to police. Francis Vierkant, 58, of Mashpee, crashed through a utility pole on the North Falmouth Highway near McMenamy Drive at about 8:17 p.m.

Vierkant was trapped in his blue 2005 Toyota Scion with serious injures, according to Falmouth Police Lieutenant Douglas DeCosta. First responders pulled Vierkant from the wreckage and he was medflighted to a Boston-area hospital.

DeCosta said Vierkant failed to negotiate a curve in the moments leading up to the crash. The vehicle veered off the road and slammed through the utility pole, sending live wires crashing down, DeCosta said. Vierkant's vehicle had "heavy" damage.
