The Battle of Gettysburg is regarded as the turning point in the Civil War. Both the battle and the battlefield were enormous and complex. Professors Claudine Barnes & Debra Murphy of Cape Cod Community College will discuss this turning point.
Professor Barnes who teaches courses on the Civil War at the College, will discuss how the North was able to win this major battle. Professor Murphy, who spends summers as a volunteer at the Gettysburg National Military Park will discuss the meaning of that battle for Americans 150 years later.
Those who attended author John Hough, Jr.’s talk in February will recall how deeply touched he was by the battleground, inspiring him to write the 2012 Falmouth town wide read: SEEN THE GLORY: a Novel of the Battle of Gettysburg.
