PROGRAM: Searching for German Ancestors at the Family History
Library and Beyond: Why One Family Moved from
Württemberg to
Indiana

On Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 10 AM, Richard Harbison
will be our guest speaker. His talk will cover how using the huge collection of
German government and church records at the Family History Center in Salt Lake
City can reveal a great deal of information on particular ancestors, but is
"a bit tricky" to use. However once you discover the town and country
in Germany your ancestors came from, a wealth of information may become
available. He uses the story of his great-great grandparents, Johann and
Johanna (Staiger) Ruof to show how he and his first cousin discovered the town
they came from and what they learned (and are still learning) after that.

Richard Harbison is a retired marine biologist and member of
the Falmouth Genealogical Society. He volunteers with other FGS members on
Tuesdays at the Falmouth Public Library to help people with their genealogical
research. On a recent trip to Salt Lake City, he broke through a brick wall in
his German ancestry and since then has been interested and obsessed with
reading old German government and church records.

Anyone looking to find a German relative will benefit from
this talk.

Meeting Location: Falmouth
