Five Doctors Wrong On Wind Turbine Noise
Falmouth Massachusetts
May 23, 2015
The five Falmouth doctors would never have written their signed letter to the Falmouth Board of Health March 19, 2013 if they knew what the public knows today.
Vestas wind company had warned the town prior to any wind turbine installations the turbines would put out 110 decibels of noise the same as a hard rock band outdoors.
4/6/2010 Wind 1 begins operation. Complaints from neighbors’s to town manager begin
The Falmouth doctors stated “they had listened to the Falmouth wind turbines and find there is little to hear. The measured decibels are modest. We are skeptical that any actual health hazard is created by their operation.”
These doctors without ever interviewing or examining the wind turbine victims mocked wind turbine victims as NIMBYs- Not In My Back Yard/
It has been known since the early 1980s that noise from large wind turbines can adversely affect human health. In 1981, physicist Neil Kelley and colleagues reported their investigation of complaints from residents living within 3 kilometers of an experimental 2-megawatt downwind two-blade wind turbine in Boone, North Carolina
What about the AMA Code of Medical Ethics Principles of Medical Ethics
First, do no harm Medical ethics A guiding principle for physicians, that whatever the intervention or procedure .Medical doctors have an ethical duty to protect the human rights and human dignity.
During the past few months there have been admissions by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center about wind turbine noise in Falmouth. The noise is described as torture by local residents. Massachusetts courts have shut down the turbines because of the noise 12 hours a day and Sunday. The state of Massachusetts through the Mass Department of Environmental Protection has found the turbines exceed state noise levels.
The Town of Falmouth through a Freedom of Information Request released a letter dated August 2010 that shows the town had always known the turbines would produce 110 decibels almost twice the noise of the Vestas wind company specifications.
The link to the letter that the town knew the turbines were twice as loud as the specifications is at this link :

In an April 2013 memo to the Town of Falmouth the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center admitted mistakes made during preliminary noise testing for Falmouth Wind One.

Prior to the installation of the Falmouth wind turbines the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center dropped this warning about infra sound found in previous studies :
B.” Human annoyance:” Aside from Massachusetts regulations, residences must also be taken into consideration. Any eventual turbine would be sited such that it would be inaudible or minimally audible at the nearest residences.
The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center in June of 2013 has changed the setbacks to commercial wind turbines to residential homes to 2000 feet .
What about the five Falmouth doctors who wrote a letter making accusations the neighbors were all about NIMBY -not in my back yard

“A group of five physicians from Falmouth have publicly stated that they do not believe the wind turbines are causing health impacts in neighbors. “There’s no evidence anywhere that wind turbines can cause this panoply of symptoms,” said Dr. Thomas Sbarra of Elm Road, Falmouth. “You have to have a rational connection between the symptoms and the alleged cause.” Dr. John M. Tudor of Coonamessett Circle, Hatchville, said, “They are blaming it on health and it is not health.” Dr. Tudor said he believes the neighbors’ health complaints are a result of psychogenic nocebo effects. “This is very common in groups,” Dr. Tudor said. “It is an emotional response; it is not a medical problem.””
Note # Neither Dr. Thomas Sbarra or Dr. John M. Tudor never examined or interviewed any of the wind turbine victims.
A large number of medical malpractice lawsuits stem from the misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis of a medical condition, illness, or injury. When a doctor’s diagnosis error leads to incorrect treatment, delayed treatment, or no treatment at all, a patient’s condition can be made much worse, and they may even die.
The Falmouth doctors owe the public an apology
