Falmouth Genealogical Society's Monthly Meeting

A Look at Falmouth Historical Society's Archives and Library at the Falmouth Public Library, 300 Main Street, Falmouth, MA 02540, 10AM -noon

The oldest structure in the Falmouth Village Green Historical District, the Conant House from the early 1700s, is being lovingly restored. The 1970s additions to the rear of the house are being replaced with a state-of-the-art , climate controlled, archive and research center.

On Saturday, March 12, 2016, Meg Costello, Research Manager at the Falmouth Historical Society/Museums on the Green  since 2012, will give an overview of the rich history in the Historical Society's archives that has been amassed over the past one hundred plus years. She will briefly give her insights as to how the new archive and research center will be  able to better serve the community. A graduate of Wellesley College, Ms. Costello previously worked at the New England Historical Genealogical Society on the Great Migration Study Project.

Our other guest speaker, Brian Nickerson, is the President of the Nickerson Family Association, Inc. or Chatham, MA, a member of the Falmouth Historical Society's Board of Directors, and volunteer coordinator of the Society's expansive digital archive. His audio-visual presentation will cover information on the digital archive which includes important documents not found in the Society's paper archives, and greatly expands the research capabilities of the Society. This quick and easy access of data permits Society staff to respond to queries by members of the Falmouth community, genealogists, and historians. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Mr. Nickerson will review components of the digital archive which are of special interest to genealogists.
