For those who are trick-or-treating, however, here are some guidelines town officials have asked parents and kids to follow:
- "You should know the families of the homes your child will visit. Accompanying your child and limiting trick-or-treating to your neighborhood is recommended."
- "Have children carry flashlights, wear light color costumes, use reflective tape, and make sure costumes fit so your child can see well.
- "Most important: do not let your child eat any food received until you have checked it. Check wrappers for signs of tampering and wash and cut all fruit. We cannot stress this enough. Taking precautions will prevent problems."
- "'Trick or Treating' should be limited to elementary school children. Porch lights should be left on to welcome them."
- "Halloween should be a fun time for younger children and not a time for mischief by older children."
