Falmouth Man Arraigned In Fatal Shooting In Hyannis

FALMOUTH, MA — A Falmouth man was arraigned on a murder charge last week in Barnstable Superiour court in connection to the death of Darrell Russ, 33, who was shot last October in Hyannis. William Hayes, 39, was held without bail and was charged with first degree murder, assault and battery with a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and unlawful possession of a firearm as an armed career criminal.

Police said the shooting happened around 1:15 p.m., Oct. 16. Officers found Russ lying on the ground with three gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital but succumbed to his injuries there.

Two weeks later, members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force found Hayes in Yazoo, Mississippi. Authorities said Hayes was hiding at a relative's house.

Hayes is scheduled to return to court March 23.
