Falmouth Man Indicted In Hyannis Fatal Shooting

William Hayes, of Falmouth, was indicted after prosecutors said he shot and killed Darrell Russ, of Hyannis.

FALMOUTH, MA — A Falmouth man accused of fatally shooting a 33-year-old Hyannis man was indicted Thursday by a Barnstable grand jury. William Hayes, 38, was charged with first degree murder, assault and battery with a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm within 500’ of a building, and unlawful possession of a firearm as an armed career criminal.

The charges are in connection to an Oct. 16 shooting that killed Darrell Russ. Around 1:15 p.m., police received several 911 calls and found Russ lying on the ground with three gunshot wounds outside a home in the 300 block of Yarmouth Road.

Russ was rushes to Cape Cod Hospital but succumbed to his injuries there.

Two weeks later, members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force found Hayes in Yazoo, Mississippi. Auhtorities said Hayes was staying at a relative's house.

Hayes is being held without bail and will be arraigned in Barnstable Superior Court.
