FALMOUTH, MA — Town officials and the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce will discuss the possibility of closing portions of Main Street, cross streets or sidewalks to create outdoor seating for restaurants when they are allowed to open amid the new coronavirus pandemic.

Chamber president Michael Kasparian told the Falmouth Enterprise the meeting will include members of the Board of Selectmen, Board of Health, the town manager's office and the police department.

Kasparian scheduled the meeting for Thursday after fielding calls and emails from Falmouth business owners and residents. The meeting is closed for just staff, but public input will be accepted at a later meeting. Kasparian said there were conflicting opinions on the feasibility of the idea.

"It’s quite challenging, because not one size fits all, and not everyone is certain they would benefit," Kasparian told the Falmouth Enterprise. "There has been quite a bit of pushback ... Not all are in love with the idea. Some folks have said that they think that it’s better for the businesses to have cars driving down there."
