Falmouth Police: Assault Rifle Suspect Wanted

Falmouth police said they are looking for Jeffrey "Keyth" Sylvia, accused of illegally possessing an assault rifle and shotgun.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth police on Thursday announced they are searching for a weapons suspect. Jeffrey "Keyth" Sylvia, 34, is the subject of an investigation by Falmouth police. On Wednesday, police raided a Pitch Pine Lane location and said they found an AR-15 assault rifle, Remington shotgun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition belonging to Sylvia. Police said he is not licensed to possess the weapons.

Anyone with information on Sylvia's whereabouts is asked to contact Falmouth police at 774-255-4527.

In a statement, Falmouth police Lt. Douglas DeCosta said officers recently opened an investigation after receiving a tip Sylvia was in possession of an "assault weapon" and shotgun. The investigation led to the Pitch Pine Lane address and police obtained a search warrant to raid the property.

"Investigators searched the property, located, and seized an AR-15 style Assault Weapon (rifle) and a Remington 870 Pistol-Grip Pump Action Shotgun, including 500 rounds of AR-15 ammunition, over 50 shells of shotgun ammunition, and four AR-15 high-capacity magazines," DeCosta said. "Upon examination, it was determined that the shotgun was not considered a sawed-off shotgun, nonetheless the suspect was not properly licensed to be in possession of the rifle, shotgun, ammunition, or magazines."

Sylvia is 5 feet 6 inches and 140 pounds with short gray/black hair and blue eyes, police said.

Falmouth police and the Upper Cape Special Response Team — consisting of Falmouth police, Mashpee police and the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office — are investigating the case.
