Falmouth Police Mourn Death of Sheriff's Deputy

Falmouth police are mourning a sheriff's deputy with local ties who was killed in a crash this weekend.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth police are mourning the death of a sheriff's deputy.

John Kotfila, Jr., 30, was killed Saturday morning in a crash in Tampa. Police said a wrong-way driver struck his cruiser on the Selmon Expressway. The wrong-way driver was also killed. Kotfila was a deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department.

His father is Mass. State Police Sgt. John Kotfila, assigned to the Bourne barracks. His brother, Michael, is a Falmouth police officer.

"Please join us in sending our thoughts and prayers to the Kotfila family, and to the men and women of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department," Falmouth police said in a statement.
