Falmouth Police Stepping Up DUI Patrols

Last year in Massachusetts, 133 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes, according to federal statistics.

FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth police said they will step up patrols targeting drunk drivers through New Year’s.

Falmouth is one of 202 Massachusetts police agencies working with the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. Their extra patrols are funded by a grant.

Last year in Massachusetts, 133 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety.

A typical drunk-driving arrest results in about $10,000 in expenses related to bail, court fees, and other costs, officials said.

“We are committed to making the holidays safe for everyone traveling on the roads in Falmouth,” said Falmouth Police Lt. Sean Doyle. “One of the hardest parts of the job is making house calls to tell a family that their loved one is gone because someone chose to drive while impaired. If you are going to be drinking, then make sure your plans include arrangements for a taxi or designated driver because if you are stopped while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will be arrested.”
