The Falmouth Energy Committee sponsored a “Name the Turbine “contest. The children in the school system were led to believe if they came up with a good name they would be a winner and the turbine be forever named their selection. Fat chance !

A thirteen year old student won the contest naming the turbine “ Aeolus” after the Greek ruler of the four winds.
So what did the kid win ? Nothing just a big disappointment they will probably never forget the rest of their lives. They pulled the rug out from under the student just like everybody else ! They named it Falmouth Wind 1. Do you think this child was depressed you wonder where they are today.

How about that August 3, 2010 noise letter from Vestas wind company that said the town had been warned about the noise prior to the construction of Falmouth Wind 1 ?

When was the last time you read a newspaper article that referred to Falmouth Wind l as having another name and why would you name something twice.

The student isn’t the only who was disappointed. There are 200 residential homes around the wind turbines that share the same type of disappointment. They were never told the truth either.

Falmouth 200 Toxic Wind Turbine Properties

For the past 5 years, the Town of Falmouth has been in conflict over the impacts, operation and future of the Town-owned wind turbines.

Since operation of Wind 1 began in March 2010, and Wind 2 began in February 2012, a number of the turbines’ neighbors have expressed serious concerns about the negative impacts of the turbines on their health, well-being, property values, and safety.

Surveys conducted indicate around 50 families reporting negative health effects, particularly with regard to sleep disturbance.

The majority of the town population views the wind turbine victims in a negative spotlight because of the financial investment made by the town. There may be as many as 200 residential homes affected by the turbines. These residents may not speak up being afraid of retribution or do not want to be cast in a negative spotlight. ( local permits etc.)

The Town of Falmouth has put financial concerns before health concerns. The turbines were a major public investment and the revenues and energy savings, as well as the costs, from their operation have been built into the Town’s financial budgets.

Recently through various Freedom of Information Requests it has been found the town, wind contractors, manufacturers and state officials had known prior to the installations about the two distinct types of noise. The noise was the state regulatory noise and human annoyance or what is called low frequency noise today.

Falmouth commitment to reducing carbon emissions equates to taking the health and property rights of a minority of citizens with no compensation for the good of the Massachusetts renewable energy “Agenda.”

The town plays a game of conflict and obfuscation, along with insufficient and ineffective communication and poor relationships among project proponents, Town officials and neighbors, has fostered mistrust, frustration, anxiety and skepticism.

The testimony of 47 Falmouth individuals with self-reported health effects conveyed that the most prevalent health concern was sleep deprivation.

Other residents reported health complaints which included stress (53% of respondents), mental health problems (45% of respondents), hearing problems (32% of respondents), cognitive difficulties (25% of respondents), as well as other effects.

The response to the health issues is the town’s reliance on fossil fuels is part of the problem. These turbines help protect townspeople from the negative effects of the use of fossil fuels.

It’s BS.

The state of Massachusetts through its so called war on fossil fuels is ignoring the health and constitutional rights of wind turbine victims to achieve a renewable energy goal. This amounts to throwing people in shark infested waters to save the rest of the people on the boat.

The recent FOIA, Freedom of Information Requests show the turbine project was a back-door, behind the scenes project; They knew all of the noise problems before installation.

The town spent $9,300,000.00 on two commercial wind turbines to destroy up to 200 residential zoned homes.

The neighbors of Wind 1 and Wind 2 were shocked during the first days of operation to discover that the reality of living near the 1.65 Megawatt turbines was very different from what the town was told them what to expect.

The state, and particularly the MassCEC (formerly MTC), promoted this disaster.

Conclusion by the Wind Turbine Options Analysis Process:

“Conclusion If the Turbines remain in operation, it is likely that the property value issue will then begin in earnest and may only be resolved in court.

If the Selectmen buy-out homes of health affected neighbors, the larger area encompassing 200+/- properties will become a toxic neighborhood, which may be the negative tipping point for their property values and fuel fair compensation?

The arithmetic will not be tricky to prove by then and the conflict will hurt the town’s finances and image for decades. This is just the beginning of calculating the total costs for the Wind Farm.”

The bottom line is this would never had happened if the town followed the wind turbine by-law 240-166
