Everyone is invited to join in Falmouth’s community celebration of the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the annual breakfast held at the Coonamessett Inn at 311 Gifford Street, Falmouth on Monday, January 18 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. The morning will include a full breakfast, live musical entertainment (featuring Ted Jellinek and bassist Laird Boles), participation by Falmouth students, and community conversation. This year’s featured speaker is Diane Keon, anti-bias workshop leader and educator at Nauset High School, where she uses a curriculum developed by the acclaimed Brookline-based educational organization Facing History & Ourselves (learn more at www.facinghistory.org). Come to engage, come away inspired. The breakfast is hosted and organized by Falmouth’s No Place for Hate anti-bias group.

Tickets are $15 adults and $10 for students. Advance reservations are required to plan appropriately for the meal. RSVP by January 14 to npfhfalmouth@gmail.com or call 508-540-1476. Payment is by cash or check at the door only.

This year there is also an opportunity to mark the holiday by participating in the National Day of Service. Two projects are planned for different times the same afternoon. From Noon – 2:00 P.M. work crews will be organized to help Neighborhood Falmouth do indoor chores for our neighbors unable to do such work. Participants should bring work gloves. This service will take place at designated sites in Falmouth. From 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. there will be a food project for the Falmouth Service Center that includes baking breads and preparing fruit salad for the center’s clients. This activity will take place at the Falmouth Jewish Congregation at 7 Hatchville Road in East Falmouth. Participants are asked to bring donations of prepared bread dough ready to bake or fresh fruits appropriate for fruit salad. Donations can also be brought to the breakfast by those unable to attend the service project in the afternoon. There will be a collection bin at the registration table.
